Here's to Celebrating Women!

As you can see, I have been busy once again, designing with Graphic45. Being a part of the Graphic45 community has really 'fed my' insatiable need for all things vintage.
These papers are from the Times Nouveau Collection and they just make me smile.
The verse is from The Paper Company. To keep with the vintage 'feel', I used silk ribbon laced throughout the card spine and centered it with a hand-me-down button.
The glitter is extra, too...adds a 'smidge' of pizazz!
So...what's new with you? How is autumn shaping up to be in your part of the land? Here in Northern Illinois, it's ridiculously cold and so blustery. Definitely NO INDIAN SUMMER in sight. I am looking forward to Friday as Paul uses his final batch of vacation before the Christmas rush at Barnes & Noble. As we are planning a trip to the UK to see his mum (and my dear friend Sarah, of course) in early 2010, we have opted to stay close to home and take a day trip or two and maybe an overnight away.

Thought I would fill you in on some exciting things that are just around the corner here at The Open Window.
In the next couple of weeks:

I will be featuring a terrific 'Autograph Session' with a fabulous paper artist and author
A new batch of blog candy will be up for grabs
I myself, will be featured in a Q&A on another fantastic blog

AND NEXT WEEK...
The brand new Play Date Cafe Design Team will be announced and the challenges will begin soon

So lots to look forward to! I can't wait to get started!
Will you be at The Play Date Cafe along with me?

A Holiday Treat For You

This week's Artful INKables post is a bit outside of the ol' box for me. Characters are not my strong suit when it comes to designing, but I think this little guy seems quite happy.

'Holiday Treats & Tails' is one of the new seasonal offerings from AI.
I used a number of embellishments including ribbon, buttons, rhinestones and glitter. I also popped the candy cane, the beaver's tail and teeth and the presents off the page with foam tape. I used chalks for most of the coloring.

Hope you will check out the Artful INKables blog and website for some rubber stamping fun!

A 'Treat' from A Nostalgic Halloween

One of my very favorite blogs is A Nostalgic Halloween. I received an email from Kris who hosts this fabulous site. She said that my name had been chosen as a blog candy runner up and that I would be receiving a little gift in the mail. What a LOVELY surprise!
I decided to feature Kris' creative handiwork first because, well quite frankly, I thinks it terrific!
This imaginative card was in the prize package.
Look at all the dimension! What I love about Kris' blog is that it isn't just about Halloween...it's not about the usual black, orange, lime green and purple, although you will find those colors from time to time. It's how she 'features' it...the nostalgia-style of it
that I love.
Here is the complete prize package that I received. Wow! Patterned papers, clip art, stamps and embellishments...now I can create my own 'nostalgic halloween' thanks to Kris.
If you haven't visited her blog yet, make sure that you do.
I call it 'Halloween for Big People'!
Now...I am off to add Kris' creation to my Artist's Showcase...it's a 'shrine', if you will, to the artwork that I receive from all of you.

'Communication' ..... Graphic45 Style

A new week...a new start...feeling much, MUCH better!
Thank you so very much for your thoughts and prayers.
I am glad to be back in my art space and ready to create!
We have become so accustomed to a 'new' way of communicating with one another, I mean, here were are 'blogging'. Thought I would give us a peek into the past with Graphic45.
I am so excited about these great papers! I looooove vintage. I have said it before and I'll say it again. Anything vintage, retro and of course, shabby chic.
Graphic45
offers it all.
This collection 'Communique' is so fab! Double-sided so it all coordinates. Besides the layers from the collection, I added some Martha Stewart vintage ribbon, some hand-me-down buttons & trim and teeny, tiny silver flat back embellishments. Yes, it took a bit to get all 22 on the scallop, but totally worth it....
look at that dimension!
Hope you will get yourself some Graphic45!
I have more to share with you later in the week...and look for it soon as one of my 'Friday Night Features'!

Glad to tell you that our new design team is in place and they are raring to go! I am finishing up the logo for the weekly challenges and arranging our prizes, so spread the word...
'The Play Date Cafe' will open soon!

I will be back tomorrow to catch up on a few other things, but until then here is something I want to know about you...
Halloween is just around the corner. I know some of you celebrate BIG TIME, costumes and all. Let's pretend that we ALL do...for this Halloween, if you could be ANYTHING YOU WANTED TO BE, who or what would be your costume? I can tell you that I would go as Marie Antoinette. Love the color, love the luxe, love it all!
How about you? Leave me a comment....we'd ALL love to know!

World Card Making Day is Tomorrow!

It's the eve of World Card Making Day! Are you planning on celebrating? Maybe you are going to be a part of the many blog hops that have been going on all week...maybe you are getting together with a few girlfriends to make cards for the afternoon...is there a stamping convention in your area...or are you planning a nice, cozy, fall day in your very own 'space' making cards until you are just too tired?

Well...I hope you are able to celebrate it in your own way tomorrow and I would love to hear about it, so please let me know what your plans are. You know the drill...just leave me a comment below. I know that there are lots of you out there that would like to know, too!
As for me...not totally sure. Although I have not shared this with you this week, I have been feeling dreadfully under the weather. I am sure you noticed (or at least I hope you did) that I did not share Thursday's Favorites List yet, and I can tell you that I won't be able to share the Friday Night Feature tonight. I was hoping that it was all due to my own home diagnosis of a possible ear infection but as it turns out, my doctor believes it is due to some possible nerve problem. Long story short, if you have ever had an earache (my eardrums ruptured as a child, and I remember it like it was YESTERDAY) then you know how it makes your WHOLE HEAD HURT...I mean, you don't know if you have a tooth ache, a headache or what....am I right?! The only thing you do know is that at any moment, you may just lop your entire melon off and be done with it! Having experienced this pain first hand, even though my home diagnosis HOPED for an easy ear infection, in my heart I had a feeling it was not, because the pain is different.

There is no easy fix for this, like an antibiotic...bummer! So this weekend may not be a carefree one for me, but it will be fine. I just have to get to Monday to see a specialist and go from there. I just don't know if I will have the 'sense' to make any cards...AND ON WORLD CARD MAKING DAY! How frustrating is that? So I may just get on the computer here and there
and see what all of you are up to...how's that?

Thanks for your patience....
and you know I CAN'T stay away for long!

FINALLY! The Blog Candy WINNER!

I have to admit...I never imagined that I would have as many entries for the blog candy giveaway celebrating my 100th follower...but there were 248 of you! Thank you ever so much for joining in the celebration. I will do my best to make it fun around here so that you will continue to follow and play along!

Onto the drumroll........Congratulations go to .....
Jeannie Kupsch from Jeannie's Happy World!
Jeannie...please email me at paul.julie1102@sbcglobal.net with your mailing address and the candy will be on it's way!  You have until October 16th, 2009 to respond.

Think Ink Challenge - Make it Sparkle!

Here it is...this week's Artful INKable's Think Ink Challenge...
Make it Sparkle!

The design team host for this is Lisa Kind at Kind Creations. Her challenge to you is to create something that
'sparkles and shimmers'...that's it...easy-peasy!
For these tags, I featured AI's newest holiday set Holiday Treats & Tails. Using 2 different Nestibilities Tag templates, I layered them using Basic Grey's Eskimo Kisses Paper Collection.
The sparkles come from Crystal AND Diamond Stickles, added not only to the edges but also to the holly leaves and 'berry' brads. A little American Crafts ribbon finishes them off.

I hope you will get over to the AI blog for all the details on how to enter the challenge. The winner will receive a grab bag of AI rubber stamps...SEE YOU THERE!
