I Love a Great.....

I love a great mocha, do you?
What about a great latte?
A great Cappucino?

How about a great challenge!

I must admit, although I am this week's host over at
I don't usually have a 'theme' in mind when
I choose the inspiration color photo.
It sorta happens 'organically'.

These colors ScReAmEd 'cafe theme'.
How appropriate.

Here's what I used.....
The DP is from DCWV's 'Linen Closet'
The stamp is from The Paper Company
The coffee-themed ribbon is Debbie Mumm
It's difficult to see in the photo,
but I did add some texture with sewing
around the inside edges

Oh...the coffee cup is covered with...
wait for it...
CHRISTMAS DP
from Basic Grey's 'Eskimo Kisses' line.
It was just the red I needed, so don't hesitate
to check your holiday stash when you are looking
for just the right fit   : )

So how do YOU plan out your projects when
you work a color challenge?
I share how I do it over in The Cafe
but I would LOVE for you to share
with my followers your method of madness...
You know what to do...leave a comment.

Julie, this is delightful!! Love the ribbon and overall whimsy! Some color challenges just immediately remind me of a stamp or image on some ephemera. For others (like this one), I just start pulling embellishments, ephemera images, and patterned papers that have at least two of the colors in them. I figure I can always add the third color using stamps and ink if I need to, to make it cohesive. I find that digging through my stash always gets my creative juices flowing. :)

Ooh, being a coffee addict I am totally in love with your card!! What a great way to do the ribbon and that little cup is just too cute!! Love it!

I print off the colour inspiration pics and leave them lying around to spark off any ideas. I also think through the theme to see if I have any goodies that fit in with it. Actually I think too much, which ends up with loads of ideas and no action lol. Once I've reflected on it I then rummage! I love rummaging through my supplies to come up with different ideas. It's like shopping in my own studio. It's amazing how much you can hoard and forget about!

Thanks for the inspiration Julie and I'm looking forward to seeing that 'BOO' badge. I'm SO with you on that one!

Gorgeous card Julie, lurrrrrrrrrrrve that ribbon, then when I saw it was Debbie Mumm I thought 'no wonder' lol

Tackling colour challenges? I look at what I have materials wise in my stash to match the colour, then go from there, hence the crochet, stitching, painty stuff. Sometimes it just 'says' a particular image to me and I'll go out and buy appropriate cardstock if necessary :)

Lovely design. Those ribbons layered and off to the side are a beautiful accent!

Depends on the inspiration. For colors that I struggle with I will look to pattern paper to jumpstart and idea. For colors that click I am off and running with the stamps and inks.

Nice card. I love how you used the ribbon as an accent too.

So cute, I love the way you used the ribbon! When I work with specific colors, I'll get out all the embellishments I have in those colors and then start matching and sorting. It's one of my favorite things to do. lol

Beautiful card, love the three folded ribbons and the coffee cup is so darn cute haha. How do I work the colours? I select one as my dominant colour then use the gallon/quart/ounce idea. Px

What a cute card. I love the stamped cup and the ribbons. Where did you find the ribbons, I have to add some to my collection! Thanks for sharing!!

Beautiful Card. I love how you used the different patterned papers and the use of the ribbon. I also thought it was very clever that you got to incorporate coffee into your design. With regards to planning a project for a Colour Challenge, I normally think of a stamp set and work from there. However, with this Challenge I started with patterned paper that had two of the colours in it and added the third colour as a highlight. I also used embossing to add dimension. I find that the method used for Challenges will depend on the Challenge and some Challenges can make you think of a new way to do things. Thank you to everyone for sharing their methods :) I am always learning.

Hi Julie, Great card and I love the patterned ribbon - what a great match. I have no method to my madness and my scrap room is proof of that. I just dig and dig (sometimes this can take the longest) until I come up with something that looks good! Have a great weekend - Cathy :)
